Enhancing Indonesian Language Education: Collaborative Efforts at Huntingtower School, Melbourne

The Indonesian language learning community at Huntingtower School in Melbourne, Australia, has experienced significant growth, with classes offered from grade 3 to grade 11 and three Indonesian language teachers on staff. To accommodate the increasing number of students and assist them in conversational practice, additional instructors are required.

In response to this positive trend, the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra collaborates with Universitas Negeri Surabaya and Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia to dispatch assistant teachers to Huntingtower School in the second quarter of 2024. This initiative was announced by the Education and Cultural Attaché (Atdikbud) during a visit to Huntingtower School on Thursday (4/18).

Over the past two years, the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra has facilitated the deployment of assistant Indonesian language teachers to schools and universities in Australia. Recognizing the high demand for assistant teachers, the program is being expanded, with plans to send approximately 40 assistant teachers to Australian schools in 2024.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Ambassador to Australia, Siswo Pramono, commends Huntingtower School for its commitment to maintaining and developing Indonesian language education. He expresses gratitude for the school’s dedication and pledges maximum support to schools with a strong commitment to teaching Indonesian.

Huntingtower School welcomes the support from KBRI Canberra and the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Melbourne in strengthening its Indonesian language program. With around 400 students learning Indonesian, the school’s language program has achieved excellent results, with students consistently achieving top scores in Victoria. This success has become a source of pride for the school.

The collaboration between KBRI Canberra, Indonesian universities, and Huntingtower School underscores the importance of international cooperation in promoting Indonesian language education abroad and fostering cultural exchange.
