Courtesy Visit from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Malaysia

 

Bandung, 28 April 2026 —  The Directorate of Partnership and International Affairs (DPIA) of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) facilitated a courtesy visit from University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), a teaching and research-oriented university from Malaysia. The visit aimed to explore and initiate strategic academic and research collaborations between the two institutions.

 

The meeting was initiated by the prolonged research partnerships from Prof. Fitri Khoerunnisa, M.Si., Ph.D., from the Chemistry Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Science Education. Her research collaborated with Prof. Dr. Sumathi Sethupathi from UTAR, with the following visiting professorships activity at UPI. 

The session was opened with welcoming remarks by the vice rector of Research, Community Outreach, and Partnerships, Prof. Dr. Agus Setiabudhi, M. Si, by introducing UPI’s academic profile. The president and Chief Executive Officer of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Ir. Professor Dato’ Dr. Ewe Hong Tat, also delivered a short introduction of the institution’s profile. UTAR was raised by and for the people with 141 programs, including bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD degrees. This institution understands that international collaboration is important, and therefore the expected outcomes from this discussion include student exchange mobility and research collaborations.

Through DPIA’s facilitation, both institutions identified several key areas of potential collaboration, including student exchange and mobility programs, joint research and publications, collaborative teaching and academic supervision. DPIA also supported the exploration of concrete implementation strategies and encouraged the development of innovative academic programs, such as joint semester exchanges and summer programs, that can be conducted in hybrid or online formats to enhance accessibility and internal participation. This visit also serves as a further step toward establishing a formal agreement and future joint initiatives between UPI and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman.
