Forging Academic Bonds: UPI’s Collaboration with Beijing Foreign Studies University for Educational Advancement

On Tuesday, April 16th, 2024, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) received a visit from Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU). The visit and signing of the MoU were held in the meeting room of FPBS’s first floor which was attended by Prof. Dr. H. M. Solehuddin, M.Pd., M.A. as Rector of UPI, Prof. Dr. Bunyamin Maftuh, M.Pd., M. A as Vice Rector for Business Research, and Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Tri Indri Hardini, M. Pd as Dean of FPBS, Prof. Ahmad Bukhori Muslim, M. Ed., Ph. D as Director of the Directorate of International Affairs, and distinguished delegates from UPI. The BFSU representatives were: Prof. Wang Dinghua, Ph.D. as Chairman of the University Council; Xu Ye, Chairman of the Schools of Asian and African Studies; He Jing as Director of Office and International Exchange and Cooperation; Wang Mingyang as Deputy Dean of the Graduate School of Education; Guan Xin as International Officer, Office of International Exchange and Cooperation; and Xiong Yue as Ph. D. student in Javanese Language from The Teacher Development Programme of The Faculty of Asian Studies. 

The purpose of this visit is cooperation in the academic and educational fields. The series of events began with remarks from UPI and BFSU. Remarks from UPI were delivered by Prof. Dr. M. Solehuddin, M.Pd,. MA. As the rector of UPI said, “There is a lot of cooperation between Indonesia and China. Hopefully, this cooperation will be stronger in the future. We also hope that later, we can open a Mandarin Language Education study program at UPI, as we also have an Indonesian language learning program for foreign students.” Prof. Wang Dinghua, Ph.D. replied in his speech, “I am grateful to the attendees who are present today, as well as the services that have been provided. UPI is a dignified university in Indonesia and developing quickly with high quality. The signing of the MoU and this discussion is a form of cooperation between UPI and BFSU in study programs, research, education, language learning, and scholarships. We must work together to streamline this collaboration”. After the speech, the next event was receiving tokens of appreciation between the two sides of UPI and BFSU.  

After carrying out the core activities of this MoU event, the next session was a partnership discussion. While enjoying the dishes provided, Prof. Ahmad Bukhori Muslim, M. Ed., Ph. D. (Director of the Directorate of International Affairs) provided an opportunity for those who wanted to ask questions from both sides. BFSU shared that they established an Indonesian Language Study Program in 1962. BFSU hopes that with the cooperation between UPI, the Indonesian language study program can be opened once every three years for a new batch. The visit and signing of the MoU ended with a joint documentation session in the FPBS lobby.
